Dynamic analysis of a vertical pump
A long vertical pump has many ways to shake. We moved its natural frequencies into the range the pump standard asks for.

The challenge
A vertical pump must have its structure and shaft frequencies in the range its standard calls for. The customer needed structural, lateral and torsional vibration analysis, and a design whose frequency separation met that standard.
What we did
- Prepared the model and carried out modal analysis of the pump structure.
- Modified the structure to bring the frequencies into the desired range.
- Ran harmonic response analysis to see displacement at the bearing locations.
- Analysed the pump shaft for lateral and torsional vibration, and modified it to reach the desired frequency range.
The outcome
The frequency separation required by API 610 was achieved, and the structure and shaft were modified to sit in the desired frequency ranges.
