Gearbox and power transmission engineering, from concept to drawings.
Power transmission is one of the areas where we go deepest. We support the design and engineering of worm, helical and planetary gearboxes and the parts around them.
What we support
Where gearbox makers use us.
Gearbox design combines mechanical layout, strength, thermal behaviour and manufacturing detail. We take on defined parts of that work, or support a whole product range.
Worm, helical and planetary gearboxes
Layout and detailed design of housings, shafts, gear blanks, bearings and covers, built from your performance requirements.
Variants and product ranges
New frame sizes, ratios and mounting options built from your existing designs, with models, drawings and parts lists kept consistent.
Analysis of critical parts
Structural and thermal analysis of housings, shafts and supports, with assumptions and results summarised for your design review.
Manufacturing documentation
Detail drawings, tolerancing, bills of material and assembly documentation for the shop floor and suppliers.
Deliverables
What you can expect back
- 3D models of housings, shafts, gear blanks and assemblies, organised by variant.
- Detail and assembly drawings to your drawing standard, with bills of material.
- Analysis summaries for housings, shafts and supports, with loads and assumptions stated.
- Variant and configuration documentation that keeps a product range consistent.
- Updated drawings for design changes and customer-specific versions.

Before you start
What we need from you at the start.
- Design basis. Power, speed, ratio, service factor and duty, plus the standards you design to for gears, shafts and bearings.
- Calculation ownership. Rating calculations and certification stay with your design authority. We prepare the geometry, drawings and checks around them.
- Variant logic. How sizes, ratios and mounting options relate, so the whole range follows one structure.
- Manufacturing context. Your machining, casting or fabrication methods, which shape tolerances and detail.
- A pilot. A single frame size or one variant set shows quality and turnaround quickly.
Frequently asked questions
Do you do the gear rating and sizing calculations?
We follow the rating method and standards that you specify, and work from the design basis you provide. Responsibility for rating and certification remains with your design authority.
Can you create a whole range of sizes from one design?
Yes. Many gearbox makers ask us to build variants from an existing design. Where the range is large, CAD automation can generate models and drawings from a short list of inputs.
Can you recover drawings for gearboxes we no longer have data for?
Yes. Existing units can be measured or scanned and rebuilt as clean 3D models and drawings. See reverse engineering and scan-to-CAD.
How is our intellectual property protected?
Your designs and data remain yours. Every Profesyst employee signs a non-disclosure agreement, and we agree intellectual property and confidentiality terms in writing before work starts. Our engineering centres run on controlled infrastructure with physical and data security, network security on every workstation, regular information security audits and remote backup of sensitive data.
How do we get started?
Send us a short brief, or a sample work package, through the contact form. We confirm scope, inputs, deliverables and review points with you, and a small pilot package is a common way to begin, before committing to a larger programme.
