Flow analysis of a heat exchanger
How hot is the water leaving a cooler, and what does a faster fan change? We simulated it before anything was built.

The challenge
A heat exchanger cools water with moving air. The team needed to know the outlet water temperature, and how it changes with different cooling air velocities.
What we did
- Prepared the flow model of the heat exchanger.
- Simulated the flow with the temperature and velocity boundary conditions.
- Repeated the simulation at various fan velocities to find the one that gives the required outlet temperature.
The outcome
The outlet water temperature was predicted for different cooling air velocities, so the fan velocity needed for the required outlet temperature could be chosen.
