Optimisation of a gearbox housing
A gearbox housing can cost more than it needs to. We used simulation to find where it could be leaner.

The challenge
A gearbox housing had to be made less costly without losing the strength and vibration behaviour it needs. The team wanted this achieved through finite element analysis.
What we did
- Studied the geometry and the project requirements.
- Prepared a finite element model of the housing.
- Carried out static structural and vibration analysis.
- Optimised the housing based on the results, and prepared a detailed report.
The outcome
The housing was optimised using the results of the structural and vibration analysis, with the aim of reducing cost, and the work was recorded in a detailed report.
