Structural analysis of a forklift mast
A forklift mast lifts heavy loads all day. We found where its welded outer rail carries the most stress and how to relieve it.

The challenge
The outer rail weldment of a forklift mast carries the load of every lift. The team needed to know the stress levels under different load conditions, and whether any area risked failure.
What we did
- Prepared a finite element model of the outer rail weldment.
- Analysed the structure for the various load conditions.
- Extracted stress levels at different areas and compared them with the allowable stresses.
- Carried out the improvements needed to avoid failure and relieve stress concentrations.
The outcome
Stress levels were compared with allowable limits across the structure, and the required improvements removed the stress concentrations found.

A vibrating roller has to carry heavy loads while it shakes at working frequency. We checked how it deforms and where stress gathers.
